Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping Surgery)
Many patients of Dr. Loessin are interested in changing the size or shape of their nose, often for cosmetic reasons. Nose reshaping surgery is intended to create a proportionate nose in harmony to the individual’s other facial features. This is done by reshaping or resizing the nose and/or nostrils to better match the shape and size of the patient’s face. Rhinoplasty is often effective in helping to correct breathing problems by structural abnormalities, which can be caused from birth defects, injury, or disease. Indeed, nose-reshaping surgery can enhance one’s confidence and self-image for a more symmetrical and youthful appearance.
Dr. Loessin has performed rhinoplasties regularly throughout his remarkable career. His high standards and skills enable him to concentrate on obtaining the best results without interfering with one’s natural development.
When performing a rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Loessin makes an incision along the rim of the nostrils. If decreasing the size of the nose, Dr. Loessin carefully fractures and removes some of the bone. If smoothing a bump, he scrapes away excess cartilage.
Rhinoplasty usually lasts one to two hours, depending on the particular case, and is performed under either general or local anesthesia. Recovery takes about one month, after which the patient can admire the results for the rest of his or her life.
Like any other procedure the risks of having a rhinoplasty are lessened if you are physically healthy and a non-smoker. In addition, it is crucial that you have a positive outlook and specific, but realistic, goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance.
How old do you have to be to have rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is a good option for someone who is at least 13 years old.
How long do the results last?
Rhinoplasty can typically last a lifetime except for the changes that come with the aging process.
How long does rhinoplasty surgery take?
Rhinoplasty surgery usually takes one to two hours, depending on the type and degree of shaping required. If the rhinoplasty is also intended to improve breathing, additional time may be required to reconstruct the airways. Dr. Loessin will be able to estimate the length of your surgery at the time of your consultation.
Will I be put under general anesthesia?
For your safety and comfort, Dr. Loessin can perform rhinoplasty under either general or local anesthesia.
What are the benefits of rhinoplasty?
Benefits of rhinoplasty can range from improved breathing to enhanced appearance and increased self-confidence.
Will I have scars from a rhinoplasty?
During surgery, incisions are made inside of the nose and at the base of the nose (open rhinoplasty) to reshape the tip of the nose and also to narrow the nostrils if necessary. Dr. Loessin will be able to make incisions that are more easily hidden and will fade over time so that they will be barely noticeable.
