LIPO
liposuction
During the procedure, Dr. Loessin will place a small cannula deep into the fatty layer and presser suction is applied until the fat is removed. Carefully sculpting contour of the body is the key for success because the fat underneath the skin must be removed and the remaining fat should be a smooth, but thinner layer.
After the surgery is complete, a pressure dressing must be worn to the suctioned site(s) to keep the body contour in shape. The entire procedure usually lasts at least 30 minutes, depending on the amount of fat to be suctioned and the number of areas to be treated.
The liposuction procedure is done under general anesthesia (you are asleep).
RECOVERY AFTER LIPOSUCTION
After surgery, you can expect to have some bruising over the liposuctioned areas for the first few days after surgery, but this usually disappears within in the first week. In rare cases, wavy skin can occur because of excess fat removal. Pain after surgery is usually very limited and is usually controlled with prescription or over-the-counter pain medication.
Most patients can return to work within two days after surgery. You should avoid strenuous activities for several weeks as your body heals, but you should be able to resume all normal activities within 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. It is important to continue wearing the compression garment, which should be easily hidden under your clothing, until your doctor tells you that it is no longer necessary.
You will see a noticeable difference in the shape of your body quite soon after surgery. However, improvement will become even more apparent after about 4 to 6 weeks when most of the swelling has subsided. After about three months, any persistent mild swelling usually disappears and the final contour will be visible.
Like any other surgical procedure, the risks of liposuction are lessened if you are physically healthy and a non-smoker. Nevertheless, as with any surgery, there is always a possibility of complications, including bleeding, infection, or a reaction to the anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by closely following the written instructions we provide you both before and after surgery. In addition, it is important that you have a positive outlook and specific, but realistic, goals.
Liposuction – Frequently Asked Questions
The results of liposuction last as long as you maintain your postoperative weight. Even if you gain a few extra pounds, you may find that the weight is distributed more evenly instead of accumulating in the areas that were problematic for you in the past.
Some variations from the ideal result may also occur, including waviness in the skin surface; temporary pain, swelling or bruising; and a permanent “baggy” look which is caused if the skin fails to contract to fit its new contour. When the latter condition occurs, the excess skin may need to be surgically removed.
